You like Indian food, I like Indian food, so why not read about Indian food...

Delhi Club

That night, August 10th 2017, around 9pm we ended up in the motherland, India. Great end to the week on Thursday grubbin on a little bit of the Delhi Club in Clarendon. If you do not know Clarendon that is in A-Town baby. Being part Indian, we hate eating fake indian food. But it is always nice getting real cheap indian food that taste delicious, if you catch my drift. Though the Delhi Club was not as cheap as we hoped, it was still worth our Thursday night. Before you settle down for the night in the restaurant it is a great idea to enjoy the mango lassi as a drink. To prove it just keep reading my dudes…

Now let us get “Started”

Above we have some tasty starters to at the table. The first thing you might notice is the bowl in the middle. The bowl is Samosa Chaat. Next to the right we have Spinach Pakodas.

The Samosa chaat is pretty much a regular Samosa that has been cracked open. It is topped with the delicious chickpeas, some red onion, the beautiful green color is green chili, along with tamarind, mint chutney and finished with Cilantro. It has the perfect balance of what I like to call “fire and ice”. The fiery flavor came from the spice in the green chili and the iceyness cooled the taste buds from the mint chutney and cilantro. This was the best starter of the night, and thus far, the best part of the night. The pakoda is battered fried with onion and potato. My opinion, too much batter not enough spinach, would have been fine without the padokas.

Welcome my friends to the main course:

I know what you notice, the color. What beautiful colors. Starting from left to right we have a Dal Makhani, then Delhi Pista Korma, Malai Jhinga, and last but not least Butter Chicken. Also in the top middle of the picture is Tandoori Salmon.

The Dal Makhani was deliciously prepared made from black lentils. Dal Makhani is best as a complimentary food. That means when you eat the Dal with another food such as chicken or rice it will boost the flavor of not just the Dal but as well as the chicken.

Delhi Pista Korma, was nothing special just regular chicken korma. Can not go wrong with it but also no problem without it.

The Malai Jhinga was definitely the highlight of the night. Our waiter suggested this dish and I can proudly say, he was not bullshitting us. This man knew his restaurants food, which is always a plus as a customer. It was a shrimp dish with a cream sauce and many exotic flavors. Like an indian wedding going on inside my mouth! If you need a Hollywood reference of an Indian wedding just watch this short video!!

Short clip from on of my favorite movies, Bride and Prejudice.

Now getting to every white person's favorite Indian dish, Murgh Makhani better know as Butter Chicken. The butter chicken was tasty and delicious but it is like that at every Indian restaurant. This butter chicken was sweet but not to sweet from the tomato sauce, it had a decent kick to it to balance out the sweet and savory. White people who never have had it like it because it is very simple. My favorite part of the dish is not the flavor and the taste it is the history behind it and how it brings people together. It was first thought of in 1950, shortly after India gained independence from Britain. From the northern Punjab region. The dish was created from using all leftovers of chicken and tomato gravy mixed with rich cream and butter. It’s flavorful but simple. And even from leftovers it packs a punch of deliciousness. I like to think of it as a representation of India itself. Like the leftovers india was now on their own, but instead of throwing everything away Indians rallied together and made a great country. Sometimes the dish can be bad and something in the country can be bad but it is one hell of a reflection.

I’d say for a late thursday night dinner it was pretty good. The service was great, food was tasty, and the best part was giving our friend a new experience of culture through the food that she ate.

Hospitality/ Service

Since it was late on a Thursday usually it would be hard to give an evaluation for hospitality and environment. We rushed in ten minutes before the kitchen closed and the gentleman was very kind and told us it was no problem to order. His patience with us was outstanding, especially when you have a mom that knows what she wants right as we walk in but changes her mind a thousand times once the waiter ask what she’d like. The thing I always look for in a restaurant is if they take your silverware and plate after you finish your appetizer and bring you fresh table setting for the entree. That is exactly what they did. Our knives and forks were taken as well as our small plates, and out came warm plates which gave the sense of a fresh clean plate.

Quality/Authenticity

I rate the food 4 out of 5 stars. Without a doubt, Delhi Club has authentic Indian food because when you sit down it feels like you’re with your relatives at the dinner table in India. The only problem which is expected, is not every dish tasted as good as the dish before. My shrimp dish was amazing but everything that followed the shrimp was not as outstanding as the shrimp.
