Copper Whiskey Bar & Grill
What’s popping, my Buds? It has been a while, I know I haven’t texted, called, wrote a letter, haven’t even sent a carrier pigeon. I will make it up to you. I been real busy working in Montana. Trust me hanging with my aunt and uncle, hitting the slopes, and having vacation takes a lot out of a high school senior.
While I frolicked around in the wild west, I was glad enough to eat at some cool places. We spent two nights in Boze-angeles, what the non-Bozos call Bozeman. Bozeman--I can tell you--was not that big of a city compared to the DMV. The best place we went to in Bozeman was Copper Whiskey Bar & Grill.
We first walked down a dark and old staircase encompassed by dark red brick walls below another restaurant after entering from the street. Lighting was limited. When we got downstairs you felt like we were in a rustic old western movie. Initially, we thought it was weird that Copper was packed on a Wednesday night. However, that is a good way to quickly assess a place before you try the food. If it’s packed on a weeknight, then it must be pretty damn good or the food is for free.

Warning: These beautiful modern yet simple looking chairs are heavy and stubborn like a donkey. Lift weights before you try to move them.

Lets “Cop” right in shall we? Our first dish was a delicious starter and frankly, one of my favorite dishes if done correctly: good ass deviled eggs. The deviled eggs came with three that had bacon and three that had salmon. I could have done without the bacon because the bacon itself was not the best. Whether on its own, or with the salmon, the deviled eggs were all you could ask for. The chef cooked the eggs with perfect texture. The egg whites were soft and silky, while the egg yolk was fluffy yet dense on top. Then here comes the salmon swimming upstream into your mouth introducing a smokey flavor. Cooked to perfection, the deviled eggs left a smile on my face.

For the bulk of my dinner I had one delicious son of a hen. My bud and I both ordered the Red Roasted Chicken. This chicken was freaking dope. The sauce draped on top of the chicken gave it a nice balance between sweet and chickeny flavor. Underneath the chicken lay a bed of mashed po-Tates and green beans. Believe it or not, the best part of the dish was the green beans. For me, a great green bean is a little firm with a crunch on the outside but not too firm where it becomes rubbery. The green bean was cooked perfectly with a fresh earthy taste and served at the perfect temperature.
I feel like when you find a good dessert, it can complete your night out in a positive way. Unfortunately, for us, our night fell short at the end of our dinner. I am not a fan of having to write about a bad dish, but I am also not going to lie, so…
We order the cheesecake of the day, and it tasted like the cheesecake of a couple days ago left out on the counter. It was a salted caramel cheesecake. The cheesecake had too much salt, I could not taste the classic cheesecake flavor that keeps me coming back, and it was just an overall a disappointment. One positive though is that the graham cracker crust was fine. Luckily for us, my uncle was a good sport and stepped up to take one for the team not allowing anything to go to waste on the dessert plate.
I will have to say the service was great. My buddy had a bottomless glass of lemonade that he enjoyed and brews for my aunt and uncle. The Copper staff and our waitress knew the food and beverage menu. They presented themselves (and we ourselves) with respect and friendliness throughout the evening. They did not keep us waiting too long, which was impressive given the crowd, again, on a Wednesday night.
And as always,
Bon appé-Tate!
